My doctoral thesis, “A Bridge to Renewal: Examining the Organ’s Role in Congregational Settings of the Roman Catholic Mass Ordinary after the Second Vatican Council,” explores the impact of twentieth-century liturgical reforms on the organ’s role in the Roman Rite, with particular attention to the organ’s use in congregational Mass Ordinary settings. In this research, I explore the challenges of balancing functional, pastoral, and liturgical goals in practice, and examine some of the socio-cultural and historical factors that have shaped the twenty-first century Catholic liturgical music scene.
This research has inspired my work and desire to help people discover the transformative power of beautiful sacred music, and to assist musicians in developing the skills they need to achieve this vision.
